This month’s Blocks magazine is reporting that “rumour has it that [NEXO Knights] is being cancelled and the summer sets may not even be released”

I don’t know where the rumour emerged, and of course the magazine doesn’t say, but I’m inclined to think that there’s more than a grain of truth in it. I get the feeling that as a ‘Big Bang’ theme with a huge investment behind it, both in terms of advertising, supporting media and dozens of new parts, that it is not performing as well as LEGO had hoped. Perhaps ‘space knights’ haven’t captured kids’ imaginations as much as it thought they would and as a result the 3-year product pipeline that is usual for Big-Bang themes is being curtailed.

While there’s no doubt that the sets are well designed, offer exciting play features and introduce many great new parts I get the impression that they haven’t really excited AFOLs at all, so I don’t think many of us will be sorry to hear of the theme’s demise.

As most Brickset members will know, 2017 marks the 40th anniversary of the creation of the Technic range of products.

A few months ago images were released showing a modern version of the iconic 8860 Car Chassis which can be assembled using parts from three of this year’s Technic sets. The instructions for Technic 40 year anniversary model became available a few weeks ago.

Read on as I review the Technic 40 year anniversary model as well as compare it with its original source model from 1980.

The Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum in New York City was designed by Frank Lloyd Wright, arguably America’s greatest architect, and is one of his finest works. It is therefore a fitting subject for a LEGO Architecture model.

It’s not the first time the building has been modelled: 21004 Solomon Guggenheim Museum, designed by Adam Reed Tucker and released 2009 was one of the first Architecture sets. For this review I cut the seals on my MISB copy so you can see the two side-by-side.

Detention Block Rescue

CELEB2017-1 Star Wars 2017

©2017 LEGO Group

If you didn’t get to this year’s Star Wars Celebration in Orlando or, worse, were there but didn’t ‘win’ the exclusive Detention Block Rescue set you might be interested in trying to build the set from your own parts.

If so, a Brickfinder reader has photographed the instruction manual and the site has compiled the photos into a downnloadble PDF.

Looking at the parts list (on Brickfinder and not in the PDF for some reason) there doesn’t seem to be anything too exotic among the elements so there’s a good chance you’ll have most of them already, or can obtain them from BrickLink fairly cheaply.
